Foundation Phase

Our foundation phase consists of 4 classes – grade R, 1, 2 & 3. Currently our biggest class has been 12 learners, which gives us the opportunity to give more individual attention compared to bigger classes. We are also fortunate enough to have our 2 classroom assistants that help us during the school day. We are a tight knit phase who absolutely love our work, and we love each child that comes through our phase.
We believe each child has potential and always work towards unlocking their potential and helping them grow. We are also fortunate enough to be part of the Reading Rocket and Munching Maths programmes that help us strengthen our reading and Mathematics skills. We take part in the Learn to Swim programme that help us learn basic swimming skills to keep us safe. When possible, we also go on outings with our most recent one being a trip to the Johannesburg Zoo.
Even though academics are important, we strive to also support our learners emotionally. We work on developing each child holistically in collaboration with our therapy team to ensure that we give the best care and support possible.

Intermediate Phase

Grade 4 – 6 constitutes the intermediate phase section of the school. Students learn through a wide range of strategies that focus on literacy and numeracy and explore the world through a variety of learning strategies geared to cater for the individual needs of the student.
The phase is made up of a team of dedicated and passionate teachers who strive for excellence and success for all their learners.
Problem solving and creative thinking are encouraged in all areas of learning. The curriculum is frequently refreshed with new and topical material. Students are encouraged to share through cooperative learning, make social connections and develop their personal resilience and people skills as part of the learning process.
Students are encouraged to participate in hands-on learning with their peers. Discovery learning is one of our favourite ways of making students aware of their surroundings. Experiential learning and the use of technology also form a big part of how students are trained for 21st century skills.

Senior /GET (General Education and Training) Phase

As noted in the name, GET phase is where learners are afforded the opportunity to experience a variety of subjects namely English (home language), Afrikaans (first additional language), Mathematics, Life Orientation Natural Sciences, Social Sciences, Technology, Economic Management Sciences and Creative Arts where they usually determine where their interests and strengths lie.
During their Grade 9 year they are assessed in order to determine which subjects to choose for their upcoming Grade 10 year for a possible career path. Learners are trained here to become accustomed to a greater work load in terms of homework and studying, but with consistent support and guidance they usually adapt quickly and with ease.
It is in this very important phase of education that we lay the foundation for the subjects they will choose for the FET phase. From Grade 8 upwards our classes are usually bigger compared to what the learners are used to, as we are one of few LSEN schools that offer an academic Grade 8-12.

FET (Further Education and Training) Phase

Once in this phase learners should have already made their subject choices and have an idea of where they would like to see themselves in the future, with some career guidance which usually takes place at the end of grade 9.

Compulsory subjects which each learner will take are English (home language), Afrikaans (first additional language), Life Orientation and learners have a choice between Pure Mathematics and Mathematical Literacy.  Learners can then choose 3 of the following subjects: Accounting, Business studies, Consumer Studies, CAT (Computer Applications Technology), Physical Science, Life Sciences and History. The following groupings come into play when learners select subjects
